Chapter 14 – Beast

Waking up in my guest room without Sashae was a little awkward. I was usually a light sleeper, so for her to be gone without waking me, just showed how tired I really was. Getting up, I went to the kitchen where I knew my aunt would be. I wasn’t going to hit the streets that day I was staying in and spending time with her. As I was walking into the kitchen, I heard the TV on the news channel and smelled the good aroma of my mother’s favorites.

“Hey nephew. Your little friend said that she will be back. She went- Why you looking like that? What’s wrong?” My aunt asked me.

I stopped right in my tracks, when I glanced at the television screen and saw the exact same car that Sashae had, but that one was flipped over.

“I’m reporting, live from 83 north, where a young women was hit while coming around the North Ave bend. Other drivers said that they saw a silver car ramming into the victim, but none of them got the make and model, nor the license plate number. We have not received an update on the young lady’s condition, but we ask if you have any information on the accident, please call the Baltimore Police Department. That’s all, and back to you, Tom.”

After hearing that, I looked at my aunt, picked my keys up off the counter, and ran out to my car, with my aunt right on my heels. On our way to the hospital, I called Vince to tell him what was going on, but he had saw the news already. He told me that he had just got off the phone with the chick he was fucking, named Stacy, and she told him that they took her to the hospital that she worked at. I told him that I would meet him there, then hung up on him. Speeding to the hospital, my aunt kept telling me that she would be okay, and that I needed to stay positive. I heard everything she was saying, but at that moment, I didn’t care about none of that.

Parking in the hospital’s garage, we got out and made our way to the emergency department. I spotted Vince near the information desk, talking to Stacy, so I ran to them to see what was going on.

“What’s going on?” I asked, looking at Stacy.

“Hey, Beast. I was just telling Vince that she was in the back. I don’t have much information, but I know, for a fact, that they said she hit her head and messed her left arm up, badly. When she gets situated, I will send the doctor out.” Stacy said, then walked to the back. We sat down in the waiting area and waited for, what seemed like, forever.

A white, short women, with blonde hair, and holding a patient folder, walked out and looked up to scan over all of the people in the waiting room. “The family for Sashae Monae.
